A SPRING ELOPEMENT IN THE MOUNTAINS

E and C reached out to me in the fall to explore their elopement coverage in the Sea to Sky Mountains.

C’s family is based in South Africa, so they opted to do their reception there, in a national park, and spend quality time together at a cabin in Squamish to sign the papers for their legal ceremony. We planned a late afternoon ceremony and to catch a sunset moment in the mountains still decorated by the last snow of the season.

SPRING SEA TO SKY ELOPEMENT

GETTING READY IN THE HEART OF A LUSH FOREST

The day began in the Logger’s Shack at Sunwolf Resort in Squamish as E + C were slipping into their wedding attire. They stayed together all weekend, but wanted to see each other in their outfits for the first time by the edge of the property in a first look moment and then read their vows before their paper signing ceremony.

A MOMENT FOR THE VOWS

After a teary vow reading, our officiant stepped in to bless the rings and facilitate a legal paper signing in a gorgeous forest elopement ceremony with me (Kate) and a dear friend as their witnesses. We were originally planning to have their ceremony next to the river, but with the high water volumes from the spring river run off, we decided to host the ceremony on a quiet and lush corner of the sun-beam-filled forest and revisit the river bank for their couple portraits.

Once they finished their paperwork, they called their family to share their excitement.

GOLDEN HOUR – IN ALL ITS GLORY

Once things were official, we dove into their portrait session by the river at Syed Stone Beach, which has gorgeous views of the snow-capped mountains on clear winter and spring days. After we caught part of the sunset, we left for Britannia Beach to chase the sun and capture the last rays as the tide came in. One of my favourite shots was them standing on a rocky sandbar before we had to escape the tide, where two loons swam into the frame – in a sweet lovebird moment, which ended the session.

Why GET MARRIED IN SQUAMISH + STAY AT SUNWOLF RESORT?

As a wedding venue in Squamish, Sunwolf can accommodate small elopements, winter micro-weddings, as well as large weddings in its outdoor wedding reception space. As of 2026, Sunwolf can accommodate 30 to 175 wedding guests, and they currently book weddings and elopements year-round. Full wedding bookings include a property buyout so that couples and their guests can enjoy exclusive use of the property. They have also partnered with Blacksheep Event Rentals, so that rentals and catering are all on-site. Winter micro-weddings are also available.

1. An Authentic West Coast Cabin Elopement Experience

Sunwolf is by and for those who appreciate an authentic mountain lodge which celebrates and offers an opportunity to unplug – it sits on a 5.5-acre forested property at the confluence of the Cheakamus and Cheekye Rivers, with towering evergreens, riverside views, and mountain backdrops — perfect for outdoor ceremonies and elopement photos that feel wild and romantic rather than staged.

2. Exclusive Use + Multi-Day Experience

Unlike a traditional venue where you’re in and out in a day, Sunwolf’s weddings and elopements are often treated as multi-day getaways — giving you the chance to relax, explore, and really be present with each other and any guests you include. Elopement experiences can be as simple as booking a cabin for the weekend with your close friends and family, exchanging vows, taking photos on the property, and enjoying a relaxing weekend with amazing food and refreshments on-site.

3. On-Site Cozy Cabins & Accommodations

Sunwolf has charming rustic cabins and lodges right on the property, so you and your partner (and any guests) can stay immersed in the setting before and after your ceremony without travel. Some couples use cabins for getting ready photos as well. The Logger’s Shack is a wonderful loft-style cabin with a bedroom and skylight upstairs. The Chekeye Lodge and Coho Lodge are large, beautifully furnished and updated spaces, which are amazing for beautifully lit getting-ready spaces. There’s no WiFi or TV in the cabins, but there is cell reception, so communication is easy. Parking is also included in all stays.

4. Delicious On-Site Catering by Fergie’s

One of the highlights is a local favourite – Fergie’s Cafe & Catering — known for its fresh, locally-sourced food, which is an easy and flavour-filled option for wedding meals and refreshments.

5. Laid-Back, Personal Vibe

Sunwolf’s atmosphere leans rustic, relaxed, and customizable with a wonderful, clear tent onsite for their outdoor wedding receptions — you can decorate your ceremony space, incorporate fireside moments under the stars, and tailor the experience to reflect who you are as a couple, rather than a prescribed format.

6. Pet-Friendly & Guest-Friendly

If your elopement includes your fur baby or a small circle of closest family/friends, Sunwolf’s pet-friendly environment and comfortable gathering spaces make everyone feel welcome.

7. Close Enough to Adventure

Even though it feels secluded, Sunwolf Resort is only about an hour from Vancouver and close to Whistler — meaning you can pair your wedding weekend, or Squamish elopement with hikes, heli-adventures, gondola rides (like the Sea to Sky Gondola), or other outdoor experiences in Squamish’s adventure paradise.

Best for: Couples who want something intimate, nature-immersed, and unforgettable — where your sea to sky wedding or elopement feels like a meaningful, experience-driven escape with stunning scenery and real comfort, rather than a quick backdrop and a timeline.
