A SPRING ELOPEMENT IN THE MOUNTAINS

E and C reached out to me in the fall to explore their elopement coverage in the Sea to Sky Mountains.

C’s family is based in South Africa, so they opted to do their reception there, in a national park, and spend quality time together at a cabin in Squamish to sign the papers for their legal ceremony. We planned a late afternoon ceremony and to catch a sunset moment in the mountains still decorated by the last snow of the season.

SPRING SEA TO SKY ELOPEMENT

GETTING READY IN THE HEART OF A LUSH FOREST

The day began in the Logger’s Shack at Sunwolf Resort in Squamish as E + C were slipping into their wedding attire. They stayed together all weekend, but wanted to see each other in their outfits for the first time by the edge of the property in a first look moment and then read their vows before their paper signing ceremony.

A MOMENT FOR THE VOWS

After a teary vow reading, our officiant stepped in to bless the rings and facilitate a legal paper signing in a gorgeous forest elopement ceremony with me (Kate) and a dear friend as their witnesses. We were originally planning to have their ceremony next to the river, but with the high water volumes from the spring river run off, we decided to host the ceremony on a quiet and lush corner of the sun-beam-filled forest and revisit the river bank for their couple portraits.

Once they finished their paperwork, they called their family to share their excitement.

GOLDEN HOUR – IN ALL ITS GLORY

Once things were official, we dove into their portrait session by the river at Syed Stone Beach, which has gorgeous views of the snow-capped mountains on clear winter and spring days. After we caught part of the sunset, we left for Britannia Beach to chase the sun and capture the last rays as the tide came in. One of my favourite shots was them standing on a rocky sandbar before we had to escape the tide, where two loons swam into the frame – in a sweet lovebird moment, which ended the session.

Why GET MARRIED IN SQUAMISH + STAY AT SUNWOLF RESORT?

Nestled on 5.5 acres of forest at the meeting point of the Cheakamus and Cheekye Rivers, Sunwolf offers soaring evergreens, riverside views, and mountain backdrops — the kind of scenery that makes every moment feel wild, romantic, and utterly authentic.
Whether you’re planning a small elopement, a winter micro-wedding, or a larger outdoor celebration with up to 175 guests, Sunwolf accommodates weddings year-round. Full-property bookings ensure exclusive use, so your day (or weekend) is completely yours, with on-site rentals and catering handled through a partnership with Blacksheep Event Rentals.

1. An Authentic West Coast Cabin Elopement Experience

Sunwolf is made for couples who crave a genuine mountain lodge vibe, unplugged and deeply rooted in nature. The property’s forested trails, riverside views, and towering evergreens make it ideal for outdoor Squamish elopement photos that feel organic rather than posed. Every corner of the resort whispers of quiet, cinematic moments waiting to be discovered.

2. Exclusive Use + Multi-Day Experience

Unlike traditional venues, a Sunwolf wedding is often a multi-day escape. Couples can immerse themselves fully — exchanging vows, exploring the property, capturing portraits, and relaxing in the comfort of the resort — without the pressure of a single-day timeline. Elopements can be as simple or as indulgent as you wish: a cabin for the weekend, a private ceremony, and shared meals with your closest friends or family at their onsite-full service restaurant and cafe.

3. On-Site Cozy Cabins & Accommodations

From the loft-style Logger’s Shack to the spacious Cheekye and Coho Lodges, Sunwolf’s cabins provide beautifully lit, rustic spaces perfect for getting ready, quiet moments together, or hosting a small group. Without WiFi or TVs to distract, couples and guests are fully present — though cell reception and parking are seamless and easy.

4. Delicious On-Site Catering by Fergie’s

A local favourite, Fergie’s Café & Catering brings fresh, seasonal, locally sourced cuisine to your wedding weekend. From intimate elopement breakfasts to full reception meals, the food feels thoughtfully made, relaxed, and entirely in tune with the West Coast setting.

5. Laid-Back, Personal Vibe

Sunwolf offers a rustic, relaxed canvas to shape your Squamish wedding exactly how you want it. With a clear tent for outdoor receptions, fireside moments under the stars, and flexible spaces for ceremony and celebration, every detail reflects who you are as a couple rather than a prescribed format.

6. Pet-Friendly & Guest-Friendly

Whether your day includes a beloved dog or a small circle of family and friends, Sunwolf’s welcoming, comfortable spaces ensure everyone feels at home.

7. Close Enough to Adventure

Though it feels tucked away, Sunwolf Resort is only about an hour from Vancouver and near Whistler. A Squamish elopement or wedding weekend can seamlessly include hikes, Sea-to-Sky Gondola rides, heli-adventures and heli-elopements if you’d like to do your vows in the thick of the glaciers, or other unforgettable West Coast experiences.

Best for: Couples who want something intimate, nature-immersed, and unforgettable — where your sea to sky wedding or elopement feels like a meaningful, experience-driven escape with stunning scenery and real comfort, rather than a quick backdrop and a timeline.
