A Vancouver micro wedding: Celebrating the start of fall

When K reached out to me, she was so excited that my style seemed to capture exactly what she was seeking for their Vancouver City Hall elopement. After seeing some of the work I did for another Victoria City Hall micro-wedding and that I offered 35mm film, we dove into our consult and began to plan her shot list and key moments.

We settled on three hours of coverage to allow for some couple and family photography time at both City Hall and Stanley Park, so we could capture some of the gorgeous fall colours. These two sweethearts had met through tree planting and, after years together, were ready to take the next steps.

A couple of days before their wedding, we got word that there may be a climate protest at city hall – which is fitting – so we went into the day unsure of whether the grounds of city hall would be the backdrop for part of the day.

Vancouver City Hall: A Classic and romantic place to make things official

The protestors had marched down the block by the time I arrived in my Evo – along with the “marriage during an era of climate change” photo journalism shots I’d been preparing to capture.

After greeting D and giving him some tips on preparing for a first look, Kayla arrived, and I quickly captured a few portrait moments while we awaited a few more family members to arrive. The wind caught her veil and made for a stunning editorial moment with the bold architecture of City Hall framing the soft details of her train and veil backdrop.

We then dove into a precious first look with family and friends looking onward on the steps of Vancouver City Hall. These city hall micro weddings are booked with multiple appointments on the same day. It was soon our turn to make them official, and we were greeted and shown up to the courtroom by the staff. The courtroom itself offered gorgeous natural lighting, and classic dark wood throughout, so the space looked classic and clean. The ceremony and the space were photographed like a dream.

City Hall Elopement Photos + Stanley Park Portraits

We took their couple portraits around city hall before loading the family onto a bus to a spot I’d scouted for family photos (that had tour bus parking available). I was so glad that they chose to include a roll of 35mm film for their wedding. Those shots brought an amazing texture and dimension to the gallery – especially the classic white rose bouquet and moody, matted photos of the deep forest couple shots.

The direction the gallery took and the dimension the film scans make it a gallery I’ll always adore.

ELOPEMENTS AND micro weddings at Vancouver City Hall

A Vancouver City Hall micro-wedding is one of the most accessible and timeless ways to get married. Ideal for couples who want to focus on their outfits, their people, and a beautiful meal after signing the papers, City Hall offers a streamlined legal ceremony with space for up to 30 guests. The surrounding grounds and nearby streets provide elegant urban photo locations, making it easy to move from ceremony to portraits without overplanning.

As of September 2025, Vancouver City Hall offers small legal wedding ceremonies on select dates, with pricing starting at approximately $300 and ranging up to $900, depending on guest count and booking type. One reschedule is permitted for a fee, though ceremonies are non-refundable.
One of the most popular times for a City Hall wedding in Vancouver is cherry blossom season, typically from mid-March to early April, when the grounds briefly transform into one of the city’s most romantic backdrops.
